Jury statement
Remember the Arts and Crafts Movement of the 19th century? Remix el Barrio can be seen as the translation of Arts & Crafts into our time, confronting familiar contemporary issues with manufacturing and consumption in our daily lives. Remix El Barrio is a collective of designers who propose projects with leftover food using craft techniques and digital fabrication. They collaborate with agents in the Poblenou neighbourhood to promote a more local and circular ecosystem. In their manifesto they want to “promote artisanal fabrication sites and designer/artisan cooperatives in the development of short-circuit products, creating direct synergies with neighbourhood actors, facilitating access and rehabilitation of abandoned sites, supporting logistics and partnerships between actors”.
