Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona – Exhibition “Invisible Animals”.

CONTEXT

Aware of the volume of waste generated by temporary exhibitions, the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona was looking for new, more sustainable forms of production.
Each assembly involved tons of materials with a short useful life that were difficult to recycle.

CHALLENGE

During the last two years, we have collaborated with the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona to rethink what a temporary exhibition can be. The result is Invisible Animals, a multidisciplinary exhibition that unites art, science and sustainability in the same circular system.

Our studio conceived and produced the entire exhibition experience. We reused disused structures from the museum itself, transforming them into exhibition furniture, and developed new installations made entirely from our biomaterials, all designed to return safely to nature at the end of their life cycle.

SOLUTION

For two years, we collaborated closely with the museum to design and produce Invisible Animals, a multidisciplinary exhibition that unites art, science and sustainability in a circular exhibition system.

We reuse disused structures from the museum itself, transforming them into exhibition furniture, and we develop new pieces with our biomaterials, Reolivar Air and CIBICO®both 100% organic and compostable.

Highlights include Lula, a 15-meter-long squid, entirely made of Reolivar Air, as well as a large moving curtain of marine forms and a signage system produced with natural ingredients -coffee, charcoal, turmeric or cochineal- laser engraved to avoid the use of inks.

Curated by Gabi Martínez and Jordi Serrallonga, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on their relationship with other species through four areas: Myth, Life, Extinction and Extinction.

VALUE GENERATED

Animales Invisibles became a pioneering model of circular exhibition in the Spanish museum field, demonstrating that it is possible to unite scientific rigor, artistic narrative and real sustainability.
A project where each piece was designed to return to nature without generating waste.
